Dante and the Soul A retreat at La Casa de Maria in Santa Barbara Friday, November 18- Sunday November 20
Imagine spending a weekend in a century-old, multi-level stone manor house re-living – though poetry, art, music, film, times of reflection and walks within a 26 acre oak sanctuary – the greatest spiritual classic in Western literature, Dante’s Divine Comedy. This masterpiece begins with the author in midlife finding himself lost in a dark wood, and then proceeds through a richly imagined journey through the depths of spiritual hell, up a mountain of growth and cleansing, and into a multi-layered paradise. We’ll retrace this journey using the three levels of the Center for Spiritual Renewal and a rich variety of the arts, as we learn, listen, sleep and feast together in this historic house. Kayleen Asbo will be lco-eading this retreat with Steve Jacobsen, Co-Director of La Casa de Maria, former Executive Director of Hospice of Santa Barbara, and a parish pastor and theologian for 27. Both Kayleen and Steve share a love for the arts, spiritual psychology, and helping people discover and experience the genius of Dante.
