Music, Myth and Gustav Klimt

Wednesdays, 3- 5 pm
Berger Center
Oakmont Village, Santa Rosa

October 10-31, 2018

Gustav Klimt was profoundly influenced by both music and mythology. A deeper understanding of those two streams can illuminate hidden currents of his paintings that evoke in artistic form the rising gestalt of fin-de-siecle Vienna: the introduction of Depth Psychology, the influence of Nietzsche’s Birth of Tragedy and Sigmund Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams. In honor of the 100th anniversary of Klimt’s death, this four week interdisciplinary extravaganza will revel in the transformative myths and ideas that ignited his imagination and highlight how these enduring archetypal stories have been mirrored across the centuries in Classical music.
