The Wisdom of the Heart:
Living a Life of Beauty and Balance
December 13-15, 2019
Bishop's Ranch, Healdsburg
An Advent weekend of contemplative community inspired by Benedictine spirituality. Each day will be framed with music and poetry, while daily lectures and meditations will draw on the wisdom of the early Christian mystical texts including the Gospel of Mary Magdalene. We'll also share in Labyrinth walks, candlelit music meditations and a ceremony of blessing and anointing, with time for you to spend alone hiking through the hills, creating mandalas in the art room or reading in front of the fire.
In Early Christianity, Mary Magdalene was revered as "The Apostle to the Apostles" . The Early Christian gospels rediscovered in Nag Hammadi, Egypt in 1945 called her the "Woman Who Knew All," the companion of Jesus who realized her full humanity and taught a path of contemplative connection with the divine. Historical research reveals that she is at the foundation of Christian contemplative traditions and monastic practice.
In this three day retreat in the beautiful Sonoma wine country, we will explore the early wisdom tradition of contemplation that traces its root back to Mary Magdalene's teachings that spread from France to the British Isles. Through art, music, and literature, we will delve into ancient spiritual practices for discovering our own inner light. There will be opportunities for art making, and our days will be framed with silent meditation, poetry and the singing of Gregorian chant at sunrise and sunset.
Please note that this is a quiet retreat- a time to deepen into silence and the spiritual life.
